Children learn the importance of rules and manners while they play and interact with each other. Simultaneously, they begin to express themselves, care for other children’s feelings, and cooperate with one another. We aim to nurture their social skills so that children will respect themselves and have empathy to others. Warmly guided by loving teachers and staff, Prime Junior children will grow and flourish.
"Learning by doing" is our philosophy at Prime Junior. Students will have a whole range of sensory focused events such as going on field trips to the farm and learning how to make their own sculpture or dish at the pottery studio. Other school day activities include hands-on cooking and tasting activities and testing hypotheses with scientific experimentation. Students will not only learn by hearing and seeing, but by using all of their senses
At Prime Junior, we cultivate positive self-expression while teaching the children proper behavior. For example, on our "Show & Tell" days, children will have a chance to share their ideas while showing respect for other children's thoughts and feelings. Throughout the school year, there will be many opportunities to enhance self-expression with a variety of mediums (art, music, writing, language).
At Prime Junior, we offer lessons in art, science and numeracy, music, social studies, and reading (details are given below. The academic activity periods differ per day of the week and are replete with interesting activities and learning materials. For the children, it is another fun aspect of their school day but the curriculum has its sights on high-quality education. We cultivate the ability to express, think, and learn in English.
In our 4-6 year old classes, we have a weekly science period in which children observe flora and fauna and experiment with water and magnets. 5-6 year old classes are geared toward forming Hypothesis > Experiment > Confirmation of results on their own. The ability to wonder, form an educated guess and find out the results for oneself is essential. Our curriculum enhances their ability to think for themselves and draw their own conclusions instead of rote memorization.
Art is a fantastic way for children to express their individuality and socialize with others. Murals, which children produce by cooperating with one another, nurture not only rich imagination but also a sense of fulfillment at the completion of the project. We use a variety of unique materials to challenge artistic expression to the fullest. This cultivates the growth of children’s imagination and artistic sensitivity in the world around them.
We celebrate Japanese and Euro-American cultures through seasonal holidays and events at Prime International School. We enjoy Cherry blossom viewing, Girl’s Festival, and Easter in spring, Japanese style matsuri and watermelon piñata in summer, Moon Festival, Satsuma digging and Halloween in autumn, and Christmas, mochi pounding, Bean Festival, and Valentine’s Day in winter. The students can feel the seasons changing while enjoying different cultural events.
Prime Junior's hands-on learning occurs not only within the classroom but out in the world as well. We have prepared several exciting field trips for the children such as sowing seeds and harvesting in the countryside, factory tours, a trip to the fire department, catching insects, and trying their hand at pottery. We make everyday a sensory adventure for our students!
