Our reading program is what sets Prime Junior apart from other preschools. It is possible to teach children to speak English if they are given enough time to learn. However, without reading skills, the oral English skills that they have acquired will vanish quickly as they enter elementary school. The key to retaining English skills is a solid reading foundation.
Through our tested Prime Junior classes, children learn phonics from the very beginning. As they progress to words, phrases, paragraphs, and stories, they gain a concrete foundation of reading skills. They will read and recite over 200 selected Reading Basket storybooks and answer comprehension questions about the contents. Through this, they develop reading comprehension skills, which equal or excel that of native English speaking children.
We strongly encourage Prime Junior graduates to advance to our Prime Academia program. Prime Academia, our returnee program, amply covers various subjects from 1st grade to high school levels. This returnee-targeted curriculum is structured upon our 15-year time-tested performance records. We are highly regarded and in demand by international school students who would like to supplement their regular schooling.
We provide a DVD for self-study at the end of the month, which contains all the songs and themes being taught in the coming month. We encourage our students to learn vocabulary, phrases, and songs at home in order to use them eagerly during lessons. Teachers that the students are familiar with are featured in the DVD and they are going to help the students learn even at home.
We hand out a weekly report on Fridays, which includes all the activities and studying students did throughout the week as well as detailed comments on their behaviors and progress. This is a good summary for the week in addition to brief verbal reports given at pick-up time, and it is also helpful for busy fathers who are not able to come to school during the week.
We prepare a report card for all the students at the end of the term to show how much they have improved. The report includes not only academic progress but also their daily attitudes and achievements throughout the term.
Students receive one sticker every time they read one of the Reading Basket books. Having read 50 books in one year, students are awarded with the title of the Reading Leader whilst those who have completed 100 books in 2 years are granted with the tile of the Reading Master. This encourages students to read different books every week.
Prime International School students are able to borrow one DVD per week from the school’s vast collection of English movies (we have more than 300 titles). Students get to pick their favorite film to take home with them.
There are a number of events planned at Prime International School such as a performance day in July, a Halloween Party in October, a sports day in November and a Christmas concert in December. What is more, we have academic events like reading contests as well as frequent parent-teacher meetings to provide opportunities for parents to get involved and keep informed of their children’s progress.
Students are able to take Junior Eiken and Eiken tests at Prime International School. This allows students to take their examination in a familiar environment. Ask for details at the reception.
Having completed Prime Junior, students will advance to Prime Academia. We continue to challenge our students and promote their learning experiences with highly-organized and effectively-planned curricula for G1 to high school, and university students. Our thoroughly developed study schedules are also suitable as supplemental lessons for international school students.
Having completed our basic phonics course, students start to take home Reading Basket books. We have prepared over 200 books divided into 20 different levels. We ask our students to take one book with an audio CD home every week to practice reading. The following week, students will be able to receive a sticker if they can read the book fluently without a CD.
